Pine Grove Placer

Location: Pine Grove, West Nottingham

Isaac Tyson is shown as siting on 37 acres in Pine Grove in Breou’s 1883 Atlas (see below). Witmer’s 1873 Atlas (also below) shows a placer mine on the tract. Tyson actually obtained a perpetual license for mining on this tract from William Scott in 1835 at a cost of $10 per ton of ore extracted (source: William Tyson’s record book). This placer mine is not discussed by Pearre & Heyl.
