Hunting


Hunting takes place on many of the Serpentine Barrens. During the hunting seasons visitors should wear hunter orange clothing for safety. There is no hunting on Sundays.

2014/15 Hunting Seasons

In Chester County the deer archery season runs from September 20th to December 13th and from December 26th to January 24th. The deer rifle season runs from December 1st to 13th and from December 26th to January 24th. Deer muzzleloader season runs from October 18th to 25th. Deer flintlock season runs from December 26th to January 24th.

Details of hunting on specific barrens

Chrome - Elk township issues a limited number of hunting permits for its property. The Nature Conservancy allows archery hunting on their property with special permission only.

Goat Hill - the Bureau of Forestry land is open to archery, muzzleloader, and flintlock hunting. The Nature Conservancy property is hunted privately and access is closed from September 20th to January 24th.

New Texas is privately owned and makes its own hunting arrangements.

Nottingham County Park has regulated hunting and applications have to be made to the Park. The archery season runs from September 20th to January 24th. Rifle season is December 4th only.
