Dawson Quarry
Location: south of road, 0.3 mile southeast of Rock Springs A quarter mile east of Rock Springs on Edward Dawson’s place is a small quarry 30 feet in diameter full of water that has not been worked for over 20 years. There is also a small opening opposite on the north side of the road. (Maryland Geological Survey, 1928) Worked before 1899 as the Tweed mine. Ore hauled to Conowingo for shipment. Active only a few years. (Pearre and Heyl, 1960). |
