Birding Highlights of 2016

covering Adams County, and South Mountain and Grasslands Important Bird Areas

201 species were recorded in Adams County in 2016, 173 for South Mountain Important Bird Area, and 171 for the South Adams County Grassland IBA.

In March Phil Keener reported a Trumpeter Swan at Buttonwood Road farm pond. This is the first ebird record for the County.

In May an Eared Grebe was reported on Lake Mae by Daniel Horton, Joel Wagner, and Ian Clarke. This is the first ebird record for the County.

In July Josh Auld saw a Golden-winged Warbler at Chestnut Hill farm. Although this species has been seen in Michaux State Forest, this is the first eBird record for Adams County.

In November a number of people saw and photographed a Snow Bunting at Gettysburg College.

The bird lists for Adams County, the South Mountain, and Southern Adams County Grasslands Important Bird Areas have also been updated with the 2016 eBird records.
