New Texas Activity Report
for 10th October 2014

In attendance: Henry Whitesel, Mike Waltz, Rocky Gleason, & Anna Hull.

Location: Texas Serpentine Barrens Area M, and small grassland leading to Area M.

Accomplishments: It was another wonderful fall day. Not too hot and not to chilly. Rain threatened but never materialized.

So we met at the parking lot on Happy Hollow Road. Then yours truly got lost on the way out to the intended worksite; it was embarrassing; the second time in my life that has happened. When we finally realized specifically where we were I opted to have us work in Clearing Y on Lower New Texas. Once we got started it went very well. Mike W cut the larger invasive trees. Rocky used loppers to cut the smaller invasives, and I used my brush whacker to cut green briar. Mike W kept us entertained with his puns and we laughed a lot. Wonderful!! I’ve included a couple pictures.

We stopped work at 1200 and went down to Upper Chrome to meet Anna Hull. We collected seeds of same rare plants that grow in the serpentine clearings. Ones that I recall are Whorled Milkweed, Stagger bush, Lion’s Foot, and St Andrews Cross. Anna and Rocky have a more complete list. We left at 3:30 pm. All in all a fun day.
